It's got all of Fleurie's silky side — violet and iris, pretty ripe red fruit... with a grudge. A mineral spine and structure. It makes eye contact with you and doesn't look away.
Serve & pair
This wine does the job of both Fleurie and Moulin-a-Vent at the table. Handling spring chicken and tomato tarts with grace, and holding it's own with braised beef with root veg, a great burger and truffle dishes without asking you to pick.
How it was made
Fruit from 60 year old, granite rooted vines, is hand harvested. Vinification is natural. Whole-cluster pressed after 6-8 days of vatting. Fermentation in cement and stainless steel cuves. Aged in foudres for 13 months. Cuves are then blended and allowed to rest for 3-4 months prior to bottling. Unfined and unfiltered. No sulfites added.
Producer
The Chignard family walked onto a hill in 1900. Five generations later they've been making wine in the same cellar for over 125 years. 8 ha with an arrowhead parcel that crosses the line into Moulin-a-Vent making it the only Fleurie with a zip code and a point. Michel Chignard built the wineries esteemed reputation. Since 2007 his son Cédric now maintains it. Which is harder, because maintaining it mens you can't miss a beat.
