Producer
The Piccoli family has owned vineyards in the Veneto since 1600. After phylloxera ravaged the estate, one of the five sons left to become a fruit grower. Two generations later, though he grew up surrounded by orchards, the late Gianni Piccoli could not deny the wine in his blood and in 1971 jumped at the opportunity to start his own estate. For several years Corte Gardoni grapes were sold to local cooperatives, but in 1980 Gianni definitively broke those ties and began to craft his own wine, focusing on the inherent character of the fruit and the terroir. Gianni was a well-known and highly respected figure in the region, as well as a fierce leader in the fight against the homogenization of the local wine scene. Gianni three sons: Mattia, the winemaker; Stefano, the vineyard manager; and Andrea, who handles sales and marketing. now carry forward the Piccolis quest to produce honest, natural wines of expressive character and soul.
