Domaine du Cayron Gigondas Rouge 2023

They don't make a "second wine." They don't make a "white wine you should try." They make ONE wine, the same way their grandfather made it, the same way his grandfather made it, since 1840.

In the glass

Gigondas' robust southern blend — rich, juicy and supple. A vintage with immediate silky charm for "earlier" drinking pleasure.

Serve & pair

Ideal with robust, savoury, fatty meats and dishes that are slow-cooked, roasted or grilled. Lamb is the obvious choice. The Sunday supper wine where talk about work is a no-no.

How it was made

Staunchly traditional, low intervention style of winemaking. 100% hand picked, whole cluster. Indigenous yeast fermented in concrete tanks. 15-21 day maceration with daily pumpovers. Aged 12-24 months in large 50+ year old oak foudres and concrete vats. Unfined. Unfiltered.

Producer

Three sisters of the Faraud family, helm this 5th generation historic 40-acre estate in Gigondas. Founded in 1840, it sits in the shadow of the Dentellese de Montmirall. The cellar dates from 1936-1937, was built by the grandfather of the current generation of ladies.
