Philosophy
Preserving freshness and acidity in the face of warmer vintages: more leaves on the vines for shade, shorter macerations, more whole-cluster fermentation, and soils managed to hold moisture and stay cool. No new oak — used barrels of varying sizes only, so the wine's delicate nuances speak. Pigeage by foot, never mechanical. Bottled unfined and only lightly filtered.
Place
The hamlet of Ribaudy on the heights of Chavanay, with steep terraces (up to 35% grade) across Saint-Joseph and Côte-Rôtie's best appellations, plus plateau vineyards above — southern exposure, optimal sunshine, large diurnal swings.
People
Grandfather Jean Faury settled Ribaudy in 1950, growing fruit trees, vines and animals. Son Philippe took over in 1979, built the winery and began the Faury label. Lionel, the third generation, took the estate's reins at 23; since 2006 the label is definitively his expression — finer and more terroir-driven than before.
Farming
Sustainably farmed.
Winemaking
About 70% de-stemmed on average, pneumatic pressing, temperature-controlled fermentations, foot pigeage, élevage in used foudres, demi-muids and barrels; unfined, lightly filtered.
