Spicy-floral with a distinct twist of pepper. Sangiovese derives its name from the Latin sanguis Jovis, "the blood of Jove." Zaccagnini's Sangiovese is an honest, every day drinking red. This wine is full-bodied, succulent and highly gulpbable.

100% Sangiovese

The Zaccagnini family has been producing artisanal wines around the town of Staffolo in the region of Le Marche on the central-eastern coast of Italy since 1973. As "Custodi delle Tradizioni" which means "custodians of traditions" they remain focused on producing authentic wines in a business fraught with manipulation, defending preserving and reinforcing the traditional true values inherited from their ancestors. Started by the Zaccagnini brothers, it soon passed to one of their daughters, Rossella Zaccagnini, who together with her husband, Franco, have been overseeing the 75 hecatre vineyard and winery ever since. Le Marche is bordered to the West by the Apennine Mountain range, the Adriatic to the East, and the northern and southern halves experience continental and Mediterranean climates, respectively. Family tradition and heritage, passion, control and attentive care of their own land, and adoption of innovative practices in the vineyard and in the winery all come together to produce wines of superior quality.

PALATE

Aromas of cherries mingle with pleasant spice notes lead to black cherries, plum preserve, and floral overtones with juicy acidity and moderate tannins. Full-bodied with a great balance between freshness, fruit, and savoury notes.

PLACE

Vineyard is located in a valley 200-300 meters above sea level, with south/south-east sun exposure, and is protected from the harsh tramontana winds and greatly influenced by the nearby Adriatic Sea. Soils are clay-rich sediments and vines, an average age of 20-25 years-old, are trained using the Cordon/Spur method.

DRINKABILITY

Drink now through 2021.

PERSONALITY

Grapes are harvested by hand before being transported to the winery, de-stemmed, and pressed. Maceration and primary fermentation takes place in French oak barrels for 7 to 9 days. Secondary fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks.

PAIRING

A pleasant combination with antipasto, salami, cold cuts, meat dished with tomato, roast lamb, suckling pig, and veal.
