Fruit forward and oh so friendly, this entry-level Tempranillo is an honest and true expression of Señorío de Valdesneros' very gulpable house style. Lively black and red berry fruit, dusty tannins, and balanced acidity characterize this estate-grown overachiever.

100% Tempranillo

Bodega Señorío de Valdesneros is a Spanish winery run by five families (all friends) that share a common desire to restore the glories of the ancient underground wine cellars of Cerrato Palentino (which number around 540). Located in the town of Torquemada outside the Ribera del Duero, Torquemada is comprised of a large expanse of vineyards that enjoy favourable microclimates and protection from the mountains. This winery was one of the very first to establish itself in this relatively new appellation, where Tempranilllo is king. Ruben Montero heads up winemaking and has helped to elevate the vineyard practices and winemaking to an elite level within just a few short years. This fledging region has become very fashionable and competes with the best that Northern Spain has to offer and Señorío de Valdesneros is considered one of the finest in this region.

PALATE

Medium-bodied with dusty tannins, dark red cherry and raspberry jam, hints of toasted oak, balsamic tones, and whispers of leather, cocoa and earth.

PLACE

Fruit comes from Pagos of Quinones and La Veguilla vineyards located in the middle and lower end of the River Arlanza valley at over 1,000m above sea level. Soil is deep, stony, and well ventilated. Vines are grown on espaliers that train them into a flat plane. 2012 was an ideal growing season with a very dry summer and light rain in early August that allowed grapes to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness.

DRINKABILITY

Drink now through 2016.

PERSONALITY

Green pruning ensures the vine produces optimal fruit and yields. Hand-harvested into 18 kg bins so the grapes don't get crushed. 3000kg/hec. Cold maceration lasted 12 days at 11˚C. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over a period of 8 days. Completes malolactic fermentation. Aged for 6 months in American oak casks.

PAIRING

A delicious accompaniment to meat dishes like braised chicken with green olives, chorizo-stuffed capon, hanger steak with mushrooms, parmesan and herb-crusted beef tenderloin, and especially lamb.
