Powerful and flavourful, with characteristically dusty tannins, only the BEST grapes are used to make Valdesneros' flagship Tempranillo. The best grapes, from one of the region's most highly regarded estates, form the deepest and most intense of Valdesneros' offerings.

100% Tempranillo

Bodega Señorío de Valdesneros is a Spanish winery run by five families (all friends) that share a common desire to restore the glories of the ancient underground wine cellars of Cerrato Palentino (which number around 540). Located in the town of Torquemada outside the Ribera del Duero, Torquemada is comprised of a large expanse of vineyards that enjoy favourable microclimates and protection from the mountains. This winery was one of the very first to establish itself in this relatively new appellation, where Tempranilllo is king. Ruben Montero heads up winemaking and has helped to elevate the vineyard practices and winemaking to an elite level within just a few short years. This fledging region has become very fashionable and competes with the best that Northern Spain has to offer and Señorío de Valdesneros is considered one of the finest in this region.

PALATE

Red and black berry fruit reminiscent of compote deliver the goods in a mineral laced bouquet followed by waves of espresso, smoke and leather encapsulated in a velvety finish with round tannins.

PLACE

Vineyards located 1000 metres above sea level in the middle and lower end of the River Arlanza valley near the Sierra de Covarrubias Mountains.. Area is dry with risks of spring frost. Fruit sourced from the Pagos of Quinones, El Eruelo & La Veguilla vineyards. Soil is deep, stony, and well-ventilated. Vines are grown on espaliers that train them into a flat plane. Production is 2.000 kg/ha.. 2009 saw a rainy spring and hot summer guaranteeing perfect ripeness.

DRINKABILITY

Drink now through 2022.

PERSONALITY

Ripe grapes are hand-harvested the second week of October at night and bunched in 8 pound boxes. A Spanish wine labeled Crianza is aged for 2 yrs, with at least 6 months in barrel. This wine was aged for 18 months in French and American oak casks

PAIRING

A delicious accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, particularly grilled, braised, and roasted lamb. Obviously works well with Spanish cuisine but also Italian tomato-based fare, and Mexican dishes too.
