In our search for a Pinot Grigio we would be proud to pour, we found Paladin from the Veneto in Italy. It's vibrant and flavourful; fruity and dry with subtle complexity with smooth silk-like overtones that leave a lasting impression on the palate.

100% Pinot Grigio

Paladin, celebrates over 50 years of tradition, yet innovation and imagination are honoured and embraced under the guiding light of quality. Located between Veneto and Fruily, the Paladin vineyards were planted alongside the ancient Roman Postumia road in 1962 by Valentino Paladin. His children: Carlo, Lucia, and Roberto have carried Valentino's passion forward. Listening to the land while vesting themselves in viticultural science, their quest is to discover how winegrowing itself might mitigate wine's big carbon footprint. Carlo oversees the production of the wine, both in the vineyard and the winery, while Lucia heads up marketing, and Roberto is in charge of sales. Passion, research, dedication, and respect for traditional methods are the main values of Paladin. These wines uphold the ancient Roman idea of wine as a "noble drink" put forth in sleek modern packaging.

PALATE

Bright aromas and flavours of acacia blossoms and orchard fruits with a hint of salinity on the finish. Dry yet fresh, balanced by juicy acidity and notable structure.

PLACE

The vineyard is located in Annone Veneto and is characterized by calcareous clay soil caused by the river Tagliamento during the last ice age and an east-west sun exposure. The area benefits from a temperate climate due to the proximity of the Dolomites, the foothills of the Alps, in the north and the Adriatic Sea in the southeast. The 2014 season was on the cooler side with increased spring rains. Vineyard canopy management was thusly concentrated on giving the vines as much sun exposure as possible.

DRINKABILITY

Drink now through 2017.

PERSONALITY

Fruit is carefully harvested at the optimal ripeness, pressed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks without the skins. Does not go through malolactic fermentation.

PAIRING

Splendid alone as well as alongside baked, steamed, or grilled fish, shellfish, seafood hors-d'oeuvres, chicken dishes - especially when marinated with lemon or white wine, sushi and risottos.
